Honourary Company of Air Pilot Update.

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Benn the newly appointed Master of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots . I was able to greet him in Ottawa on behalf of CASARA Ontario.I spent a very pleasant day with Peter, Jeremy Tracey the Past chair of HCAP North America and Peter Allen CEO Vintage Wings.

The Master was in Ottawa on his way to Vancouver to meet the CASARA National President, this would be a follow-on to the Masters Trophy won by CASARA last year. As a result of that award the London Court of HCAP elected to grant CASARA an ‘Affiliate Status ‘of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots. There are very few organizations that have received this prestigious certification. He was to present the certificate to our National President at a reception in Vancouver.

Peter Benn was very interested in CASARA its alliances and in particular it’s ability to function seamlessly with the AIrForce. Throughout the day he received extensive briefings from Commander of the Air Force and TSB.

As Jeremy and I were the only members of HCAP and I being the only member of both. The meeting with Peter Benn made for a very informal and pleasant day. With easy discussions on subjects of mutual interest.

Peter hopes to visit N-O-L next year and also to visit with a local unit in operation . He also is interested in doing some local flying. I told him we would be pleased to assist in both instances .

A vote of thanks to Jeremy for hosting not only the evening at the Rideau Club but also for providing transport to ensure we were in the right place at the right time.

A vote of thanks also to the CASARA Ontario Executive for authorizing the Ottawa visit . It was greatly appreciated by all concerned .

New Vests

Hi Folks

Before we order the safety vests I want to give everyone a chance to look at the product and offer any suggestions as to lettering, placement of crests, etc.
There will be a CASARA crest in place of the present one on the back. Also no number on the back plus Velcro strips on the left and right side on the front to put name tags and wings.
These vests meet class 2 standards which is what most emergency people, police and such use. ANSI 107-2015 standards for class 2 garments specifies a few things that one would think important to us. First high visibility and second flame resistant under the ANSI standard.

Please forward your responses to Claude Overholt

Thanks
Claude

And the training never ends!

This is a simulated crash site setup for Search and Rescue (SAR) training by the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA)-New Liskeard.

On August 10th, 424 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron completed Search and Rescue training with CASARA-New Liskeard and North Bay. During this training, the crew of the CC-130H Hercules intercepted an aircraft simulating having engine problems. Eventually, they were led to this crash site and carried out the training to hone their skills.

CASARA is very involved in training their crews by setting up very realistic crash sites. The volunteers also act as casualties allowing the SAR Technicians can practice their medical skills. SAR training is a team effort between the Canadian Armed Forces and their important CASARA volunteers.

#SAR

CASARA water recovery of SAR Techs a success!

CASARA is always innovating. Earlier today, SAR Techs were recovered by a CASARA float plane back to the Sudbury Airport after conducting exercises on a northern Ontario lake. CASARA Ontario is working toward making this yet another tool in our kit as we evolve along with the changing needs of our Forces partners. This strategy would allow a Griffon helicopter on an actual rescue to carry more fuel armed with the foreknowledge that a CASARA aircraft could recover a SAR Tech if necessary after accommodating the added weight of the rescued person. The SAR Tech would simply remain behind to be recovered by CASARA.
